Grouting for Culvert Rehab
A lot of our annular space work is done on culvert repairs. When a failing culvert is slip-lined with a new pipe, you’re left with a gap between the old and the new. That space has to be filled to:
- Hold the new pipe in place
- Prevent water from getting in
- Stop future settlement or erosion
- Restore strength to the structure
We use cellular concrete because it flows well, fills all voids, and doesn’t add unnecessary weight to the road or soil above.
Why Cellular Concrete Works So Well
Compared to standard grout, cellular concrete has some key advantages:
- Flows easily – fills every void, even in long runs
- Lightweight – reduces load on weak or failing structures
- Pumps long distances – works great for hard-to-reach culverts
- Low pressure – protects the new pipe from damage
- Fewer trucks – we add foam onsite, keeping the jobsite quiet and clean

One Lift Pour with Water-Filled Pipe
If the job allows it, we often recommend filling the new carrier pipe with water during the grout pour. It helps in two ways:
- Keeps the liner from floating or shifting — water doesn’t compress
- Allows a single-lift fill — no waiting between layers
It’s a simple trick that saves time and avoids problems, especially on culvert rehab work.
