Pipe Abandonment with Cellular Concrete

Why Use Cellular Concrete?
Old or unused pipelines left in the ground can collapse, settle, or cause sinkholes over time. Filling them properly is important — and cellular concrete is a solid choice because it’s:
- Flowable – it moves easily through the pipe and fills all the way
- Lightweight – reduces stress on the surrounding ground
- Pumpable – we can run long hose lines to reach hard-to-access areas
- Efficient – faster to install with less labor and equipment
Fewer Trucks, Less Mess
Compared to regular flowable fill, cellular concrete keeps the jobsite cleaner. We mix it onsite by adding foam into a cement slurry. That means:
- Fewer ready-mix trucks on site
- Less traffic and staging space needed
- Quicker installation overall
If you’re working in a tight or active area, this makes a big difference.
Fewer Digs, Fewer Bulkheads
Because it flows so well, we usually only need one or two access points to fill the entire pipe. That means less trenching and fewer bulkheads, which saves time and cuts down on restoration work.
Tight Access? Not a Problem
We’re set up for tough access jobs. Running hundreds of feet of lightweight hose is no issue — it’s easier to handle than traditional concrete hose, and it lets us work in alleys, easements, and other hard-to-reach places without tearing everything up.
What If the Pipe Has Water?
Cellular concrete will push the water out as it fills. There’s no need to fully dewater the line ahead of time — the material displaces the water and still gives you a full, solid fill. This comes in handy when you can’t keep the pipe completely dry.
