Tunnel Grouting

Tunnel Grouting with Cellular Concrete

At BME Lightweight, we provide tunnel grouting services using cellular concrete. Whether you’re sealing an abandoned bore, filling voids behind liners, or closing out the tail end of a tunnel, we can get the job done quickly and cleanly — even with limited access.

Grouting Tunnels, Casings, and Bores

Tunnels, jacked casings, and microtunnels often leave behind long, irregular voids. If left unfilled, they can settle, wash out, or cause structural issues down the line. We use cellular concrete because it’s:

  • Flowable – fills tight gaps and long runs completely
  • Lightweight – doesn’t overload surrounding soil or structure
  • Low pressure – safe to place around liners and utilities
  • Pumpable – easy to run hose through shafts or over long distances

We handle everything from full-tunnel fills to sealing off tail sections that remain open after carrier pipes are installed. These back ends are often tough to reach — but we can fill them completely without needing a second access point.

Abandoned Bores and Tunnels

If you’re decommissioning a tunnel or casing, we can fill and seal it with cellular concrete. The material flows easily and will fill the full length of the bore — even around bends — with no need for compacting or layering.

In most cases, we only need one access point, saving time and keeping your jobsite simple and clean.

Tight Access? Not a Problem

Tunnel work often means limited staging, confined work areas, or remote access. That’s exactly what our system is built for. We can pump hundreds of feet through hose with full control over the mix, pressure, and placement.

Whether we’re working from a vault, bore pit, or launch shaft — we can fill the void without bringing in heavy equipment or tying up space.

Fewer Trucks, Cleaner Site

We generate the cellular concrete onsite by injecting foam into a cement slurry. That means:

  • Fewer ready-mix deliveries
  • Less jobsite congestion
  • Faster installation with fewer delays

It’s a clean, efficient way to close out a tunnel, void, or abandoned structure.

Typical Tunnel Grouting Jobs

  • Sealing tail sections of microtunnels and jacked casings
  • Abandoned bore and casing fill
  • Utility tunnel grouting
  • Backfilling behind liners or segmental rings
  • Filling shafts, voids, and access points

Serving California

We serve contractors, agencies, and engineers throughout California. Whether it’s a new install or a closure job, we’re ready to handle the fill and get it done right.
